Dr. Ilias Mavroeidis is a Programme Management Officer in UNEP/Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) since June 2016, where he is responsible for governance issues including partnerships. Before joining MAP, he has served as a scientific expert in the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Greece and as Environment Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union.

Julia Pierraccini is a Project assistant at MedCities. She has been previously working for the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean of the FAO and MedWaves. She has a master degree in Intercultural management.

Dr. Konstantinos Vafeiadis is the Mayor of Vrilissia, also serving as Deputy Mayor for Finance and Infrastructure (2015- 2023). He holds an M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), an M.Sc. in Advanced Chemical Engineering from Imperial College and a Ph.D. in Control Engineering from City University London.

Margarita Karavasili, Architect d.p.l.g. (diploma of architecture delivered by the French government) former Special Secretary of Environmental and Energy Inspectorate, Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate change (YPEKA) Scientific consultant in Sustainability, Circular Economy & ESG criteria Board member of ECOCITY, volunteer organisation for a sustainable urban environment

Miriam Huguet graduate in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and postgraduate in BIM Management. She is currently working in European Projects in the field of sustainable architecture and Urbanism. Among them, in the Sustainable Med Cities project as Lead Beneficiary.

Andrea Moro is an architect, researcher and educator who has been active in the field of sustainable building at national and international level for more than 25 years. He is the main scientific responsible for the Protocollo ITACA Italian national certification system. Expert for UNEP/MAP (Istanbul Environment Friendly Cities Award) and the European Commission (Level(s), New European Bauhaus).

Dr. Costas Balaras is a mechanical engineer, research director at the Institute for Environmental Research & Sustainable Development in NOA and member of the Group Energy Conservation. His research interests are in the areas of energy conservation, high performing buildings and decarbonization, sustainability assessments and energy audits. Costas is an ASHRAE Fellow, ASME Fellow and European Engineer.

SMC Decision Making process to prepare a sustainable and participated retrofitting concept

Elena Bazzan is an architect graduated at Polytechnic of Turin with a Master of Science (MS) in Architecture for Sustainability. She is currently working as researcher and project manager at iiSBE Italia R&D, dealing with Sustainable Built Environment Assessment, with more than 10 years of professional experience in the field.

Capacity building of public authorities and planners the SMC TRAINING SYSTEM

Paola Borgaro is a member of the board of directors of iiSBE Italia R&D. She has extensive and various experience in leading EU funded projects dealing with design and implementation of training courses aimed to improve skills and competences of professionals, private companies and public bodies, mainly focused on sustainability issues.

Multi-Level Governance Guide

Elisabeth Tuà graduate in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and postgraduate in Urban Planning Law. She is currently responsible for the Coordination for the Development of Urban Habitat and Land Policies at the Generalitat de Catalunya

SOUSSE – TUNISIA

Maher ZAOUI is an engineer graduate from The School of Public Works of Paris. He is a Consultant/Expert in Infrastructure and Urban Development with different donors. He did missions on Improving the Efficiency and Sustainability of Infrastructure provided by local authorities in TUNISIA, and strengthening the resilience of infrastructure to climate change in the city of DJIBOUTI as a World Bank Consultant

MOUKHTARA, Al Chouf

Roger G. El Ashi holds a Bachelor’s Degrees in Business Administration. Mr El Ashi has been serving as the Mayor of Moukhtara since 1998 and he is also the President of the Federation of Municipalities of the Higher Chouf, since 2000. Due to his past and present experience, Roger engaged the Municipality and the Federation in multi EU and other projects that benefited the region as whole. Moukhtara is a member of the Global Covenant of Mayors, MedCities, Euromed and other programs.

German Jordanian University team. The aim of the German Jordanian University is to provide applied training, experiential education, and professional excellence, oriented towards the needs of the market and industry, and occupying a prominent position among Jordanian and Arab universities. The University acts as a bridge between Jordan and Europe in general and with Germany in particular.

Dr Tsikaloudaki is a civil engineer and a professor in the School of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her research interests are on the performance of the building envelope and building elements, building physics, environmental impacts, circular economy and sustainability in the built environment. She is also a member of the board of Directors of the international initiative for the Sustainable Built Environment and of the water company serving the city of Thessaloniki

Earth Observations for Unveiling the Local Built Environment

Dr Elena Dascalaki is a building physicist, research director at the Institute for Environmental Research & Sustainable Development in NOA and member of the Group Energy Conservation. Her research interests are in the areas of energy conservation, TABULA building typologies, building stock modeling, life cycle analysis, and building thermal simulations.

EUROPEAN CLIMATE PACT

Alice Corovessi is the Managing Director of INZEB, a nonprofit organisation in Athens, Greece. Her personal interests include the social aspects of energy. During the last years, she has worked closely with municipalities and other organisations on energy poverty mitigation, the evolution of energy communities and energy democracy. since September 2023, she is the Country Coordinator for Greece for the Climate Pact, an initiative of the European Commission launched as part of the European Green Deal.

Carbon Neutrality in the City of Athens

Dr Eleftheria Alexandri is a civil engineer with a degree from the National Technical University of Athens, she also holds a Masters degree on sustainable architecture from the University of Cambridge, where she ranked first in her class, while her PhD from Cardiff University was on the mitigation of the heat island effect. She works ar the City of Athens’ GHG emissions inventory and analysis on which she is going to talk about.

Engineer Reham Jammal. She serves as a Mayor’s Consultant for International Relations & Projects in the Greater Irbid Municipality in Jordan. She is the project Manager of the Sustainable Med Cities and Green Building Projects

The Istanbul Environment Friendly City Award

Jihed Ghannem serves on Advocacy and communication on environment and sustainable development with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Currently serving with the UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan—Barcelona Convention Secretariat, based in Athens, Greece. Previously, he served as an Information Officer at the United Nations Information Centre in Tunisia and Communication Officer at the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, an intergovernmental organization.
